Im an ATL fan so I'm use to our great draft picks..... do I agree/ would've done it? God no. Do I understand it though? Yes. 1st off the biggest reason is because I think we are scared and feared of the recent past. After Vick we went through that QB cycle and then got Ryan and didn't have to think about it for a while. And then Ryan leaves and we have no plan B, no way for even making us competitive. If we had an average qb last season we were in the playoffs and I honestly don't think its a debate, but I also agree our division is weak now but you're still in and Tampa had a W. What if Cousins goes down like Rodgers did or his ankle snaps again in the 3rd game? We will be sitting in the same place. I wanted Turner but he cant change that our QB play can with the playmakers around. I hope no one ever experiences that injury but I think they have been thinking about QB's so much the last 2 years that this move let them exhale and now not worry about it for years, and Cousins is that type of character to teach him I think and encourage him cause he knows he only has a few more good seasons in himself and he seems the mentor type. And this kid does sling it, and he so happens to be left handed, which if you spend anytime here most people still look at Vick of what could've been and we finally got an athlete for qb. Cause if Kirk is solid for the next few years and I'm not saying well win a SB, but if we make it to the playoffs and we even get to an NFC title game one year. All those draft picks are around 22-30. It is agonizing watching us not get to the qb, but if that changes the next 2 or so years, and this offense core stays together (if no one wants out before then), that will be the quickest show on turf and it wont even be close. Plus, if Penix is injury prone this will give him more time hes ever had to get fully recovered... cause maybe its the lefty factor, but it is fun watching him zip one in there and that thing is spinning. OR theyre playing that game when a team becomes desperate for a qb over the next year or 2 cause theirs goes down and cant get one, that they trade for him so that we get a lot for it. I'm sure a lot of teams would give up top defense talent to get a qb in there to save their season if they were on track. and I don't think theres an issue with signing Cousins and then this draft but I think theres an issue with how much we paid for Cousins and then do this in the draft. Thats what I cant wrap my head around. You only pay that money when youre sure hes your answer. If we got Cousins for 2 years for 60-70 mil I dont think it would look as bad, but yes it still looks bad.
